CPMC Mission Bernal Campus, CA
Founded in 1871 with just 17 beds in a rented house in San Francisco’s Mission-Bernal Heights district, St. Luke’s Hospital has evolved through five generations. The new CPMC Mission Bernal, a replacement hospital, marks the first step in revitalizing the campus, transforming it into a modern symbol of lasting community dedication.

A NEW APPROACH TO INFRASTRUCTURE
SUMMARY
As part of Sutter Health CPMC’s seismic safety plan, the new 120-bed Mission Bernal hospital replaces the outdated St. Luke’s with a modern, efficient facility serving southern San Francisco and Northern San Mateo County. Offering urgent care, surgery, emergency, obstetrics, and specialized elderly care, it shares design principles with CPMC Van Ness while maintaining a distinct neighborhood presence as a new community landmark.
